What Do Eric Bloom and Ian Hunter Have In Common?

Eric Bloom of Blue Öyster Cult and Ian Hunter from Mott The Hoople are friends.  And, as it turns out, they wrote a song together.  Well, according to Eric, Ian wrote 70% of it, but they get equal credit.  It was written in Eric’s basement.  He had a guitar lick he played for Ian, and Ian took it and ran.  It’s on my  favorite Blue Öyster Cult album Spectres from 1977.  And, now that I know Ian pretty much wrote it, it makes sense to me, as it’s kind of a poppy sounding song.  Still one of my favorites for the album though.  Here’s “Goin’ Through The Motions”, a Bloom/Hunter song!
