The Original is almost always better!

I’ve been saying it for years….the original version of a song is ALMOST always the best version.  ALMOST.  Notable exceptions are Jimi Hendrix version of All Along The Watchtower, Manfred Mann’s version of Blinded By The Light, Joan Jett and the Blackheart’s version of I Love Rock And Roll….and there are a few others.  The Huffington Post has an article titled 71 Cover Songs That Are Infinitely Better Than The Original.  I beg to differ on many of the choices on that list.  I’m not going to go through it song by song, but here are my NOPE! songs.  John Mayer’s version of Tom Petty’s Free Fallin;.  It’s good, but not better.  Mumford & Son’s version of Simon & Garfunkel’s The Boxer.  NOPE!  Eve Cassidy’s version of Fleetwood Mac’s (Christine McVee) Songbird.  Good?  Yes.  Better NOPE!  Yes, I understand, music is subjective, and that’s the beauty of it!  You can agree or not, no one is right or wrong.  At least I know what I like!
